HERE'S WHAT JOGA HAS TO OFFER

We have created this beautiful studio with the intention of uniting the many talented and dedicated yoga teachers, Pilates and movement instructors on the island. Joga’s mission is to offer an inspired health and wellness experience, dedicated to nurturing the whole self: mind, body and spirit.
 
The classes we offer are as varied as the teachers from all over the world who have found their way to the island. Whether you are looking for a space to unwind and release your stresses, an energizing workout, a community in which to share and grow, or the guidance to tune back in and ground yourself... Joga has an offering that is right for you.

YOGA

Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa means “movement linked with breath.” Postures are strung together in a short or longer flow.
This style of yoga is often quite dynamic, which requires the mind to stay focused in the present to be able to keep up. Focusing keeps you from drifting off and helps you to be present in your body rather than stuck in your head. All levels welcome.

 
Candlelight Yin / Deep Stretch 
While Yang is related to heat and movement, Yin is the challenge of finding stillness and release. A quiet and meditative class of mostly seated or reclined long stretches each held for 3-5 minutes or more. Going even deeper than muscles to gently target the connective tissues such as joints, tendons, ligaments and fascia mostly in the lower portion of the body such as hips, glutes, hamstrings, and lower back. Guided meditation accompanies this practice for focus and calming of the mind. A beautiful compliment to active lifestyles and yoga practices.
 
Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga that focuses on mobility, stability, strength and alignment. The use of props allows students of all ages and abilities to practice with a deepening awareness that penetrates the layers of their being and leads to meditation in action.


This class introduces the principles of yoga and the Iyengar system, teaching the fundamentals of body alignment to prevent injury through yoga postures. Students with limitations or previous injuries will be supported to develop a safe, strong and steady practice, understanding its beneficial effects. The course will focus on classical standing poses, seated poses and relaxation poses, bringing the student safely towards back bends and inversions. It is the perfect choice for new students, students looking to build a stronger foundation to their practice or the ones looking to challenge their body and mind.


Hatha Flow
The foundation of all asana practice, focusing on proper alignment of asana, holding each posture statically for 5 to 8 breaths, using pranayama to deepen your physical, emotional and mental strength while calming your mind and body.
   
Flow & Restore
This unique class offers the best of Vinyasa and Restorative practices. It starts with a powerful flow connecting the breath with movement, and ends with calming Yin & Restorative elements. It is the most effective way to feel rejuvenated and enjoy the strengthening and soothing effects of a balanced yoga practice. 



Gentle Flow / Beginners
A gentle and mindful practice with a focus on strengthening and stretching that promotes flexibility and relaxation. Beginners are welcome.
   
Power Vinyasa
Power Vinyasa is a powerful, energetic form of yoga, moving fluidly from one pose to the next while connecting breath to the movements. A challenging and inspired class, designed to build strength and increase flexibility. 



Chair Yoga
Chair yoga was founded as a way to adapt Hatha yoga poses for elders, students with injuries, disabilities, and those with medical conditions. This practice provides a way for students of any fitness level or age to practice yoga in a comfortable and attainable way. Most all yoga poses can be practiced using a chair, including twists, forward folds, hip-opening poses, and heart openers. This class will incorporate movement, breathwork and guided visualization/meditation to help bring deeper awareness within the body. The practice helps to reduce anxiety, protect the joints, lower blood pressure, and builds strength as well as balance. The class will provide a safe space for beginners and experienced yogis who are looking for a bit more support. 


Sunday Flow
Sleep in on your Sunday morning and join us for a mid morning class. Smooth movement to wake up your body. Leave feeling revitalized and blissed out. 

Reggae Yoga Flow

The Reggae Yoga Flow is a fusion vinyasa class that associates breathing and movement with a happy and playful touch. It's a gentle yet dynamic class, set to reggae music, that will connect you to your senses, work on your strength and flexibility, and make you feel good as you relax and have fun in the process. 


Prenatal Yoga & Birth Preparation
A class that allows the mom-to-be to gently and safely support her changing body, while simultaneously lifting her mind and spirit. A series of postures, relaxation techniques and breath work is practiced in preparation for the birthing event, helping her to feel empowered. Each class also offers an opportunity to connect with other pregnant women in a nurturing environment.

PILATES

Pilates Reformer
A small intimate class on the Pilates reformer machine (max. 4ppl). This full body workout is done in a safe and low impact format with the assistance and resistance of weighted springs, maintaining constant engagement of the core. You will be sure to tone, strengthen and stretch!

Pilates Blast (Reformer)
A high intensity class that will integrate the Reformer, weights, balls, bands, and kettlebells! Incorporating both cardio and resistance training, this high energy class will make you sweat, while toning and sculpting your muscles. Beast mode ON.

Redemption Pilates Mat
Redemption Pilates is a contemporary style of this classic form of body sculpting exercises. It combines strength-building and core work, and uses the breath to facilitate a mind-body connection. Known for creating long, lean, and strong muscles, this class will make you sweat, tone, feel refreshed and have fun! After all, this is Sint Maarten... we can all use a little Redemption! 

ADULT DANCE CLASSES


Adult Ballet (Intermediate)

This class will focus on ballet technique, posture, alignment and artistic expression. Following a classical ballet class structure, we will begin with barre exercises and transition to the centre to work on connecting steps, adagio, jumps and turns to find the artist within. Previous experience recommended.
 
Flamenco (Level 2)

Flamenco is an Andalusian art that integrates 3 elements: dancing, singing, and guitar. Known for it's great emotional intensity, Flamenco is distinguished by it's graceful arm movements, stomping, and guitar strumming. In this class, we will focus on the Sevillanas (structured dances). ​

WORKSHOPS & SPECIAL EVENTS

Monthly Full Moon Yoga with Live Music
Join us for our magical monthly Full Moon Yoga flow, set to live music. Move and breathe through those full moon vibes! 

Healing Meditation & Personal Guidance with Sasha
Join Sasha for a healing meditation. A new theme each session, Sasha will guide you to inner healing and personal empowerment. The session will close with a personalized card reading for each participant. Ask questions, share and grow in this warm & welcoming environment. 

Cacao Ceremony & Sound Alchemy
Join us as we drink the sacred medicine of Cacao to open our hearts and connect with our intentions, to let her guide us to the transformative and healing power of pure sound. It’s a beautiful sensory opening experience, as you will feel the transformative power of the plant and sound medicine combined.

We will be drinking Ceremonial grade Cacao from Guatemala. Cacao aims to gently touch and open up the emotional center of our body - our heart chakra. The medicine works specifically to bring us back to the feeling of love, oneness, and connection. It’s a beautiful journey to meet your higher self and to open your heart, to deeply connect with your true essence and others around you.

Instruments such as gemstone crystal bowls, shamanic drum, 4 element chimes, rattle, rain stick, and tuning fork will all help to balance your energy centers. You’ll be able to gently release stuck emotions and blocked energy that no longer serve you. Open yourself up to more mental clarity, deeper connection to yourself, and a balancing of your energies.

Get Upside Down Workshop Series
A fun and challenging series of Inversion workshops. Achieve your headstand, forearm stand and handstand in this encouraging and strengthening series. Come for one or all and grow your practice!
